Wisdom teeth are the third molars to erupt in the back of your mouth, typically between the ages of 17 and 25. While some patients experience little to no issue with their wisdom teeth, it is common for wisdom teeth to become impacted. This occurs where there is not enough room in the mouth and jaw to accommodate the additional set of teeth.
When wisdom teeth become impacted, they must be surgically removed to prevent pain, damage to the surrounding teeth, and risk of infection. Our team performs emergency wisdom tooth removals to treat pain and stop the spread of infection in patients who are living with impacted teeth.

The healing period begins within a couple of days but it can take more than a week for your mouth to heal fully. Like any surgery, be sure to keep an eye on the extraction site and check for swelling or bleeding. If it does not look like the wound is healing, call our office right away to follow up. We will perform an exam as needed to assess your condition and provide further treatment.

If all four teeth need to come out, then it may be more convenient to have them all extracted at once. Pulling the teeth in separate procedures means numerous healing periods between extractions. Your work or school schedule may not accommodate repeated dental visits, too. Speak to our dentist to create a treatment plan that works for your scheduling needs.
